MODELLING | PROGRESS

Initial stage of the model, following work on it over the summer

In the run-up to week 7’s Feedback Week ‘pitch and crit’, I knuckled down and got a fair chunk of the model…modelled (there’s gotta be a better way of saying that). I already had a nice start of the model, with the main form of the two repeatable sections mostly modelled, but I wanted to try and finish the lower half (the building minus the top dome).

I didn’t entirely manage that, as there’s still some areas that need to be done on that front (the upper yellow section should be windows instead of flat walls, the roofs don’t overhang etc etc), but overall I still got a lot done, especially considering the complex nature of the model.

The following are a few screenshots of my working on the model up to this stage, with some comments on methodology.

Curves were made using the three-point arc tool – using subdivisions on construction polygons as a guide I could test out a variety of different arcs

For the upper sections, I referenced the original design more rigorously

For the upper sections, I referenced the original design more rigorously using image planes – though as most was originally modelled by eye, it doesn’t wholly match up

ffffff

Booleans were used to create this form – making the intersecting curved form with a high number of divisions gave much more accuracy to the oft-horrible to use Booleans, and gave a nice result
