WEEK 1 | PERSPECTIVE STUDY

wk1_perspective-study

For week 1 of the Computer Arts Practice module we were tasked with creating one or more basic perspective line drawings (no tone) of a chosen part (or parts) of the university. For the above drawing I chose the outside area on the top floor of the Hannah Maclure Centre.

Overall, it took me around 35-45 mins or so to complete, and generally speaking, I was happy enough with the result – feeling that I’d made the perspective reasonably convincing. That being said, I don’t feel I quite conveyed the curve of the building well enough as I feel it lacks a convincing sense of depth, though I daresay the lack of tone plays a big part in this. Also, whilst pen is a fairly…unforgiving medium to work with -which is partly the reason for the messy strokes – the general messy quality is probably the weakest element of the drawing and something that I have noticed is often present in other such pieces of mine.

Traditional drawing has never been one of my strong points and whilst I think this does show a bit here, I nonetheless feel that when it comes to perspective I’ve acquitted myself reasonably well with this sketch.
